Spreading "JOY"

Good Morning! Just wanted to share some reader "JOY" with you. Remember the berry "JOY" decor? I had two readers send me pictures this weekend. I just love how they both suspended their decorations...from a doorway...
 and a picture window.
Thanks Erin and Ashley! They look great!

JOY

I have taken about a three week sabbatical from blogging. I am having a hard time finding a good balance between sewing for my etsy shop and kids, blogging, and taken care of my family. Does anyone else ever feel that way? I have just come to the realization that I can't always do it all and sometimes I need a break:) So we took one and went to Atlanta for Thanksgiving! We had a great time visiting my in-laws. And since we have been back...decorating for Christmas is in full force! My mother-in-law had her house decorated to the nines when we got there. I was inspired to get a move on it when I got home.

I made this simple berry decoration for above our stove.
I feel like the kitchen often gets neglected when I decorate and needed a little Christmas "Joy."

Berry "Joy" was three things I love about a project...fast, easy and cheap! I bought five stems of "berries" at Michaels. They were on sale for 99 cents each. You really only need about four. You also need ribbon, command decorating clips and pruning sheers(regular scissors aren't strong enough to clip the wire. At least mine weren't).
All I did next was shape the stems into the letters, J-O-Y.
I twisted the top of the "J" into a loop so I could attach the ribbon.

For the "O" I used one berry stem and and tore off some little berry stems from another stem. Does that make sense? I didn't quite use two whole stems.
For the "Y" I had to cut a 3 inch piece of wire off and reattach it where I wanted to hang the ribbon. I just twisted it until I was happy with the way it hung.

I used Command decorating hooks to hand the ribbon from. These are easy to use and don't put any holes in your wall.
All finished!

I hope everyone has a "joy"ous holiday season!

These are some other ways I used my left over berries...
Happy decorating!

Orchid Wreath

It's about time I put a wreath on our door!

My poor, bare, front door needed a wreath! I like simple and elegant so I knew I wanted to go with one flower for the entire wreath. What flowers to choose? There were so many...magnolias, peonies, hydrangea...the choices were endless! I ended up choosing orchids. They are one of my favorite flowers and I loved the green color. You can make one too. It's a piece of cake and takes no time at all!

Here is what you need...
12" green ring- $5 at Michaels
2 stems of orchids- $10 each. You can use a 50% off Michaels coupon. Sign up for it next time you go there. They are doing away with the Sunday paper coupons.
Glue gun/glue sticks
Scissors

Cut all of the flowers off the stem.

Use your hot glue gun and start gluing!

I just glued them on the sides and front of the green ring so it would lay flat against the door. Plus if I would have covered the entire ring it would have cost me a small fortune!

All finished and now my door has a little color! And I love the color!

I would love to see your version! Maybe with your favorite flower or a ribbon to hang it with. The possibilities are endless!
