Ornament Box

We have been invited to two ornament showers this holiday season. I think it's a great idea to have a shower where guests bring ornaments to help the bride and groom build a supply for their first Christmas together. I purchased some ornaments and was trying to think how package them so they wouldn't break. Remember this box for the superhero cape gift?
Well, I made another. This time I spray painted the bottom of the box green and used this adorable Robert Kaufman ornament fabric to cover the top. Then I used a ribbon scrap to go around the edge. Ta-Da! Super quick and easy! I just wrapped the ornaments with tissue paper...
Tied a pretty red bow around it and it's ready to go!
You could also use it to wrap up a gift or for cookies!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful Holiday Season!

Birthday Superhero

What little girl...or boy doesn't like to pretend they are a superhero? How fun would it be to fly through the air at the speed of lightening and save people, using super powers? It seems like superheroes are even more popular today than when I was a little, especially superheroines. Wonder Woman was the only female superhero I remember. I used to have Wonder Woman underware, when I was 5, and loved to run around in them pretending to save people...and things. With all of the comic books, figurines, movies, games and apparel you just can't help but fall into the superhero craze. There is even an online quiz that you can take to help you determine which superhero you are most like. I couldn't resist...

Your results:
You are Superman

I was excited to learn I was most like Superman...one of my favs!

Besides having superpowers, superheroes have great costumes! But what superhero is complete without a cape? A few weeks ago a friend of mine asked if I could make a cape for her nieces for Christmas. She gave me a link to this cape she found on Chasing-Fireflies and asked if I could make something similar. I had never made a cape before, but thought it was super cute and was excited to try it out. And who better to try it out on, but our friend Mary...

This weekend we are attending Mary's birthday party. She is turning 6...I can't believe it! I remember visiting her when she was just a few weeks old. She has grown so much and is the most expressive, imaginative and creative (about to be) 6 year old I know. She gets it honestly. Her mother is the BEST story teller! Mary loves to pretend and play dress up. So I immediately thought of her when I was experimenting with the cape.

I used a polyester-satin fabric in sparkly green apple and hot pink. The outside of the cape is pink and the inside green. I embroidered a "M" and "mary" on the center-back of the cape.

I also made a matching mask for this little superheroine. I ended up cutting a little more out around the eyes. An I may even adjust the nose part as well. It was a trial and error project:)
It's hard to tell in the pictures, but the green fabric has sparkles in it. I love the way it shimmers.
Carson had a fun time modeling it! I think I will probably make her one too:) Just a little shorter and more narrow around the neckline.

I like to package gifts in reusable boxes or bags. I saw this unfinished box at JoAnn fabrics and thought it would be perfect for Mary's superhero cape and mask. Maybe she could use it to store secret items, her most prized possessions or to hide things from her sister. Anyway she chooses to use it, I thought it would be a good way to wrap her gifts. Decoupaging a box would be great for Christmas cookies or gifts too!

I wrote this silly, little poem and placed it into the box with her cape and mask. I am by no means a poet, but I have fun trying...

Her name is Mary,
She fights those who're scary.
She wears pink and green,
And could never be mean.
Whether a friend or a foe
To help she will go...
She will always be there,
To show she cares.
And to serve and protect,
Those she loves best!

Happy 6th Birthday!
XOXO

Hope you ENJOY! We are so happy to be able to celebrate with you:)

Pumpkin Party and Hostess Gift

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Halloween is right around the corner and we were able to celebrate a bit with friends this past weekend. My friend, Lindsay, had a Halloween party complete with a mini pumpkin patch where kids could chose a pumpkin to take home! Such an adorable idea. It also made a fabulous background for pictures. I took some of the girls in their costumes. Carson chose to be Ariel (this time) and Clara was Tinkerbell. Tinkerbell is my personal favorite and she is not yet at the age where she has an opinion of what to wear. So I took full advantage of the situation and dressed her in what I like:)

Later Carson decided to dress up like a Native American just like her friend, Taylor...
They had a great time chasing each other around and around and around. I was dizzy just watching.
When we go to a holiday party I like to take a hostess gift to thank them for having us and all their hard work. So I made our little hostess a pumpkin tutu onesie.
I used a Carter's onesie and nylon chiffon which I cut a 10" inch piece and folded it in half to give it a little bubble affect. Then I attached the skirt to the onesie. If you are interested in making one I have a tutorial on how to make a skirted onesie. You can find it HERE.

I used orange and white stripped fabric scraps for the appliqued pumpkin face. And a zig zag stitch to finish it off.
I wrapped it up in one of these...
I love these little pumpkin trick-or-treat buckets. I found ours at our local CVS and you can get them for about $2. I bought some for my girls and personalized them using Sharpie paint pens. I also put a little glow-in-the-dark paint on the eyes, nose and mouth. So their buckets will glow when they are trick-or-treating.
Here is the adorable hostess modeling her new pumpkin outfit. Isn't she is the cutest pumpkin in the patch!?
I hope everyone has a wonderful week and a fun time dressing up!
Thanks for stopping by!

For the Birthday Girl

We are attending a birthday party tonight for one of Clara's first friends...Miss Georgia! I can't believe that they are both one! I remember their first play date like it was yesterday. They had lots of fun getting to know each other...
Now they are both mobile and enjoying things like the aquarium and chewing on inflatable swords!
Georgia, we are so excited to celebrate your special day with you!

Georgia's mommy and daddy both went to Arizona University, so it's only fitting I made her this to show her school spirit and cheer on her Wildcats! I have made lots of skirted onesies, but have never made one with an empire waist style..

"Bear Down" was embroidered on the front of the dress as it is the official motto of UA. It also has a little ruffle around the bottom for that extra bit of femininity and fun! I really like the empire look and will be making more!
I also made the birthday girl this!
I love owls and made two other little birthday girls these a couple weeks ago. I used Ashley's owl download. I have since made my own owl modeled after the little owls on the fabric. I loved the flowers for eyes and their little wings. I make the owls larger/smaller depending on the size of the shirt.

I have been selling them in the shop, but really made the very first outfit with Georgia in mind. I saw these cute little guys at JoAnn fabrics and had to have them.
I paired the owl knit fabric with some stripes and polka-dots. I made a pair of mismatched leggings for those chilly Florida days. We do have a bit of cool weather in October and November (can't wait for those days).
I hope you have a fabulous birthday Miss Georgia! We love you!

A Joint Party

This Sunday we are spending the afternoon at a joint birthday party for two of Carson's friends. They are both turning 3...so exciting! I decided to make them some twirl skirts with their favorite Disney characters.
Tinkerbell
and Aurora!
Both Disney skirts were made using the Twirl Skirt pattern from Lil Blue Boo.

Fall is right around the corner so I thought I would go with some fall"ish" looking outfits for the girls too. We have many warm fall days living here in Florida so short sleeves and skirts are appropriate. But I think the outfits would look really cute with a long sleeve shirt under the shorts sleeve shirt, tights and boots for the occasional chilly days.

The skirts were made with a thin corduroy. I love the bright colors. I found this particular fabric at Hancock Fabric store. You can find something similar at JoAnn Fabrics too. The pattern I used to make the skirts is the Edith Twirl skirt pattern. I love this pattern! It's directions are really easy to follow and has pictures to help you along the way. Which I like because I am such a visual person.
Aren't these lil' owl appliques cute?! Ashley has a pdf pattern download here! I did a couple of things different. I only used the inner owl piece on my owls and felt for my owl's eyes where she used buttons. I try to use what I have on hand and I have lots of felt!:)

I used rick rack on both skirts to give them a little detail and color.
Carson modeled Melina's owl outfit.
She insisted on wearing her cowgirl boots with it.
After our little photo shoot, I wrapped their gifts up in little brown bags...
with their names. I used scrap book letter stickers leftover from Carson's birthday place mats.
I used foam stars for the card. I punched a little hole and tied them with ribbon.

Happy Birthday girls! I hope you have a fabulous time at your party. We are very excited to be able to celebrate with you.
XOXO
